On the roof of the existing SCAI-A building in Brod, whose purpose is business - company administration, project bureau VMarch + partners have made a project to upgrade a new floor which is in full compliance and visual harmony with the building on which it is located. The cubic form of the building was sent through the upgrade project, so the new construction has the propper lines.
The original building, which has two floors, has not changed its appearance for decades. Prefabricated concrete elements with a row of right-hand windows whose composition dominates the facade are interrupted only at the entrance part.
The idea was that the existing object would go through as little constructive interventions as possible on the way of building a new floor in a way that it’s not visually noticeable that the building was upgraded. However, in order to maintain the rhythm of the façade and get adequate organizational space, some of the openings only simulate the effect of the opening. The rhythm of the facade is accompanied by the materialization of a semi-structural facade and a coating of composite aluminum panels.
The organization of the existing two floors is completely the same, with the addition of another vertical communication (passenger lift). On the new floor there are the offices of the director and the meeting room with accompanying contents. The rest of the upgraded floor is a flat passage roof that is designed for the company's needs.
